Robot vacuums, air fryers, phones and gadgets via HK group-buys, cross-border tuán-gòu and 11.11 deals.
Why the HK Flat Is a Robot Vacuum Test Case
Most robot vacuums are designed and reviewed against suburban North American floor plans —
2,000-3,000 ft², open-plan kitchens, low-pile carpet. A typical Hong Kong flat is closer to
400-700 ft², tile floors, multiple 90° corners, raised thresholds between rooms, and almost
no carpet. The features that matter in HK are: edge cleaning, threshold climbing, app control
in a Cantonese/Mandarin interface, and noise (concrete walls amplify motor noise into
neighbouring units).
Suction power — measured in Pa — is the headline spec on every Tmall and HKTVmall listing.
Above 4,000 Pa, the marginal benefit on tile is essentially zero. Below 2,500 Pa, the unit
will struggle on the rugs and door mats common in HK entryways. Anywhere between is fine for
HK use.
The Four Brands That Matter on HK Group Buys
Roborock — Premium tier (HKD 2,500-5,500)
The benchmark for laser-mapped navigation. The S8 Pro Ultra and Qrevo Curv (2024-25
models) are the strongest all-rounders for HK flats: precise mapping, reliable threshold
crossing, and a self-empty / self-wash dock that genuinely reduces maintenance to once-monthly.
The Hong Kong distributor offers a 2-year local warranty. Group-buy parallel imports save
HKD 800-1,200 but carry only the manufacturer warranty serviced through the mainland.
Dreame — Strong mid-tier (HKD 1,800-4,200)
The X40 Ultra and L20 Ultra punch above their weight. Dreame's mop-lift mechanism (the
mop heads retract when the robot detects carpet) is the strongest in the segment. Sales
volume on HKTVmall and Tmall during 11.11 makes Dreame the single highest-volume robot
vacuum brand in HK group buys.
Ecovacs — Value mid-tier (HKD 1,200-3,800)
The Deebot T20 Omni and X2 Pro are stable, mature platforms. Ecovacs' edge: the OZMO mop
system handles HK tile well, and the brand has the most established service centre footprint
in Mong Kok and Causeway Bay.
Xiaomi / Mijia — Entry tier (HKD 700-2,000)
The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro and Mijia entry models are the most-bought robots in
HK by absolute units sold — they are also the most-returned. Suction (around 4,000 Pa) is
adequate; mapping is improving each year. App is mainland-China-cloud by default; switch to
the Mi Home (Singapore) region during setup if you want a more reliable HK experience.
What to Filter On
- Lidar mapping — non-negotiable above HKD 1,500. Random-bump robots are
genuinely worse on HK floor plans.
- Threshold height — most HK flats have 1.5-2 cm thresholds between rooms.
Aim for a robot rated to cross at least 2 cm.
- Mop function — useful for HK tile and wood. The robot must lift the mop
or retract it when carpet is detected, or you will mop your rugs.
- Self-empty dock — worth the HKD 1,000-1,500 premium if you can spare
the floor space (usually 50 × 50 cm). The dock cuts maintenance from twice-weekly to
twice-monthly.
- App language — confirm the app supports English or Traditional Chinese
in the HK app store. Some mainland-distributed units default to Simplified Chinese only.
Group-Buy Pricing vs Local Retail
Mainland Tmall flagship store pricing for Roborock Qrevo Curv is currently around RMB
3,499 — roughly HKD 3,860 after FX and freight. The same model at Fortress or Broadway HK is
HKD 5,388. A reliable HK 團長 will land it in your flat at HKD 4,180-4,380 including all
costs. The HKD 700-1,200 saving is real, but you give up the local 2-year warranty (you keep
the manufacturer's 12-month warranty, serviced via cross-border RMA, which takes 14-21 days).
Which Model for Which Flat
- Under 400 ft², no rugs: Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro (HKD ~1,200).
The flat is small enough that mapping is forgiving.
- 400-700 ft², mixed flooring: Dreame L20 Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni
(HKD 2,500-3,200). Mop lift matters here.
- Over 700 ft², multi-zone: Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Qrevo Curv (HKD
4,000-5,500). The mapping precision and self-empty/self-wash become genuinely time-saving.
- Pet households: Roborock S8 Pro Ultra. The brush design and HEPA filter
handle dog and cat hair noticeably better than the alternatives in HK reviewer panels.
What to Avoid
Skip: any unlabelled white-label robot vacuum on Taobao under HKD 800 — battery life is
short, mapping fails on HK thresholds, and after-sales support is non-existent. Also skip
"AI obstacle avoidance" as a primary feature; on HK tile floors with few obstacles, this is
a marketing line, not a useful capability.
